Sarah is passionate that all our children deserve to receive a good education at their local school. She has been working with the National Education Union to oppose cuts to education funding and is fully supportive of all the local efforts to ensure that staffing levels are safe in our schools.
According to the Institute for Fiscal Studies, total school spending per pupil fell by 8% in real terms between 2009-2010 and 2017-18. The same study reports 55% real terms cuts to local authority service spending and a real-terms cut of more than 20% to school sixth-form spending per student in the same time frame. In her time as a primary school governor, and governor in further education in Swindon, Sarah has seen the impact of these cuts first hand – the provision for children with special educational needs and for social service support is not available to everyone that needs it.
Local cuts according to schoolcuts.org.uk:
-£279 per pupil Chiseldon Primary School
-£201 Wanborough
-£942 Bishopstone
